Tell me more...
“Awakening” features a blend of original compositions by Woody Witt and pianist Felipe Silveira, as well as lesser-known gems from the Brazilian songbook. The album channels the energy of Miles Davis’s mid-60s quintet while embracing the rich tapestry of Brazilian musical traditions, creating a sound that is both timeless and refreshingly contemporary.
The lineup includes Felipe Silveira on piano, Daniel D’Alcantara on trumpet and flugelhorn, Thiago Alves on bass, and Paulinho Vicente on drums, with Woody Witt leading on tenor saxophone. Together, they deliver a wide-ranging musical journey that balances free-flowing improvisation with intricate arrangements.
“I’m incredibly proud of how ‘Awakening’ turned out,” said Witt. “It’s a celebration of the musical conversations between jazz and Brazilian music, and I think listeners will really feel that spirit.”
“Awakening” will be officially released in October 2025 and will be available on all major streaming platforms as well as in physical CD format. In support of the release, Woody Witt and his Brazilian quintet will embark on a 12-day tour across the United States, with performances in cities including Boulder, Amarillo, Austin, Houston, and Beaumont.
